Learn how to do the basic embroidery stitches

Anyone can learn how to make beautiful doilies, tablecloths or many other useful items with the art of embroidery stitching.  In fact, once you have learned to do a few of the simple stitches you will be amazed how many things you can create.

You can buy doilies already made to embroider with a transfer pattern, some will come with the crochet edging already done for you as well.  These may have a colored pattern with colored threads attached which depict which colors to use on the various patterns.

Here are a few stitches that may be more useful than others:


  • Stem Stitch - for the stems
  • Satin stitch- this can be used to fill in the flower blooms on roses
  • Chain stitch- this is great for daisy flowers
  • Blanket stitch- for as the name suggests or any edges

Follow the directions for doing the basic embroidery stitches

Whether you embroider with an embroidery sewing machine or sew by hand I am sure you will have many hours of enjoyment once you get started.  You can even surprise your friends by making them gifts for Christmas or birthdays.

Writing as a Family With Similar Craft Interests

I have enjoyed writing for years as a novice although I now write together with my daughter on another site.  We share the same interests like photography, crafts,  mosaics, crochet, and my husband also enjoys working with glass which we love the things he makes.
